After the luxury of Baños, we headed for our primary destination where we’ll be spending a full month: Cuenca. I really don’t like long car rides, but when it looks like this? I didn’t get bored.

Our AirBnB for this first week was only $14 a night. The location was great, but at that price you can imagine what a drastic change of lifestyle it was from the gorgeous hacienda we left. The only catch of getting our kids out of their accommodation comfort zone is that we have to join them. 🙂
On our first day of Spanish classes, we met an awesome family from Colorado with two girls close in age to our girls! We ended up spending almost every day with them for the next two weeks and had a blast.

Our first weekend excursion was to Cajas National Park. We took a leisurely hike around the first lake (there are over 300 in the park!). Being over 13,000 feet, it got chilly after our hike, and we were happy we didn’t have to wait long for the bus.
The landscape reminded me of scenes from The Lord of the Rings.
